(Us television) DVD Collections: A Gift Of Entertainment Excellence.
No commentsBy Virgil Morris
As inflation tightens its grip on America, its consumers are staying home more often. Consequently, DVD and video game sales have increased dramatically. In response the DVD industry are releasing old television shows like, Emergency and China Beach, as well as new shows. However, it is the high quality of television programs today that are causing the newest DVD releases to sell out in stores across the country. Shows like Prison Break, Dexter, and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles have been creating an extra wave of excitement on top of the increase in sales already underway because of their high production value, intense story-lines and great acting.
Prison Break Season 2 continues after Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) has broke out of the maximum security prison at Fox River and now must fight to survive inside Sona, a hellish Panamanian prison where the only rule is brutal violence and the only way out is in a body bag. So, with time running out, Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) scrambles desperately to free his brother along with the only man who can deliver Lincoln’s captive son from the sinister clutches of The Company.
The critically acclaimed and groundbreaking original series from Showtime, Dexter, starring Michael C. Hall, returns on DVD with 12 riveting and chilling episodes. In Dexter - The Second Season. Dexter is committed to carrying out his twisted brand of vigilante justice - Dexter begins to doubt his murderous capabilities and continues to be haunted by his tortured past. His difficulties multiply when evidence of his deadly after-hours activities begin to surface and the FBI is brought in to investigate the city’s new serial killer dubbed the “Bay Harbor Butcher”. Dexter can’t pause for a breath as the noose tightens and the questions keep mounting.
In Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles, Sarah Connor (300’s Lena Headey) her son John, and their protector, a terminator from the future must take back the future. While simultaneously prepare her son to be the future leader of humankind and to fight the war against machines determined to annihilate the human race.
As if to complement the exceptional drama, two new comedy shows have made their debut on DVD which are as high of quality as they are funny. The Big Bang Theory and Spaced are both surprisingly funny with good story lines and new gags an accomplishment that is rarely seen in television comedies.
In The Big Bang Theory physicists Leonard and Sheldon understand everything from the inescapable gravitational pull of a black hole to the intricate structure of the atom unless those atoms are assembled into a woman, then their comprehension comes to a grinding halt. So when Penny, a woman with all those atoms in all the right places, moves in across the hall, Leonard and Sheldon’s universe begins to expand in ways they never could have imagined.
In Spaced two idle twenty-something flatmates - would-be comicbook artist Tim (Simon Pegg, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz), and moody writer Daisy (Jessica Hynes), exist in a world precariously perched on the edge of sanity. So when their self-induced lack of success in employment, relationships, and their oddball assortment of friends and neighbors, Marsha, Brian, Mike and Twist get thrown into the mix their world gets hurled into hilarious insanity.
This selection of titles is just a small part of the great DVD sets being released. Television shows on DVD are this summers perfect fix for high gas prices and travel expenses but since there are no commercial interruptions, the popcorn is perfect, and the chair is comfy, why bother going to the theater.

Pop-Up Goes the TV: How Rooms Can Multi-task
By Ron Subs
It seems that everyone and everything is multi-tasking these days, even our rooms. Every room from our offices, dorm rooms, living rooms, kitchens and every other room has multiple uses. If you want to have a party in the living room without your flat screen TV being the focal point of the evening a pop-up TV is the answer. So, exactly what is a “pop-up TV”, anyway? Simply put, this is a flat screen TV attached to a special device that lifts up out of a cabinet for viewing on demand. You can have your party without fear of an accident or someone turning on the set to watch “the game” in the middle of the party.
So where can you install a this type of TV? Basically, anywhere that you can place a regular cabinet. Some examples include, but aren’t limited to: bedrooms, outdoor rooms, kitchens, bathrooms, RV’s, mobile homes, RV’s, boardrooms and of course, the family room. Some even have a swivel so the screen can be pointed to any part of the room, thus allowing it to be installed practically anywhere. Your best bet would be to thoroughly research pop-up TV’s and find one that is well-made, quiet and not too expensive.
If you already own a nice cabinet and would like your current TV to pop-up out of it, it is possible to order a kit that will allow you to fit your television inside and have it come up only when you need it. This is a nice option when you already have a set of matching furniture in a room and you don’t want to change the look you have created. Remember, the idea here is for the television not to be dictating your decorating anymore!
If you would rather purchase a complete system already installed in a cabinet, rest assured that that can be accommodated as well. There are several companies that have the special TV cabinet, lift, component shelf, etc. fully assembled and ready to be delivered straight to you. This really couldn’t be any easier. Once your order arrives simply follow the easy to read instructions and you’re ready to use your pop-up TV. There are many beautiful cabinets to choose from anywhere from oak to maple to black lacquer. There are cabinets that are designed to fit every taste, style and budget from casual to formal and from frugal to extravagant.

Cable, Satellite, Or Antenna which is better?
By Virgil Morris
High definition television is the newest revolution in the technology for watching television. However, understanding the difference between the current system and high definition television is important. The difference is the resolution; the quality of high definition television is 5 times better than the usual DVD. The minimum resolution for HDTV is 720p but better should be 1080p. Furthermore, the HDTV requires a Blue Ray Disk player and Blue Ray Movies to take full advantage of the better picture quality. Older movies can’t give you this quality because of the cameras that were used at that time they made the movie were not HD and it is not just because of the type of television that gives the resolution of HDTV.
High-definition television is fantastic if the system to support it is present. There are actually three different options to choose from when deciding between cable or a satellite system. They are obviously cable, satellite, and the old fashioned TV antenna.
Cable depends on whatever local cable company provides in the way of high-definition channels. Some cable companies only offer a handful of channels that are available in high-definition and there is an extra charge for this service. On the other hand, one big advantage for cable is that there usually isnt an extra charge for the local channels and most of them are now available in HD.
With satellite systems a huge factor to be considered is the cost of the equipment that is needed. Like a HD receiver is needed to be able to view HD channels. Also, with satellite there is an extra charge for local channels.
Lastly, the older TV antennas more or less snatch the signal out of the air. Consequently, when an HD receiver is hooked up to a regular television it will pick up local channels in HD. This saves a great deal of money and with new services like Blockbuster All Access or The Movie Download downloading or renting movies is a nice alternative
In a nutshell, High-definition is the future of television and the benefits of cable is there is no more equipment to buy and the local channels are included. The benefits of satellite are that there are many more channels, but there is an extra fee for the local channels. The benefits of the TV antenna are that it is inexpensive and the local channels can be watched in HD.
