Have you noticed that the televisions in your neighborhood stores have been disappearing? These televisions have been changing their looks and styles ever since they first came out on the market. When they first came on the screen, the picture or tube was only 9 inches across and now you can buy them with 60-inch screens or more. Televisions that are greater than 60 inches are usually not found in homes. A 60-inch television is pretty wide and very heavy to move, and you would have to have a good-sized area to set this television into.

These TV’s are very expensive and if they get destroyed, which is really easy to do, you are just out your money because the parts that might be needed to fix them are almost as expensive as the TV’s themselves. There are all different brands and models to choose from. If you really want to have one of the big ones, just make sure that you can hook other electronic machines to it because the older ones could not be hooked onto these machines at all.

Most TV’s that you see at the 20 to 27-inch range can usually be purchased for fewer than 300 dollars. Once you go up in size, it will cost you in price. As consumers, we are always looking for bargains so if we see a sale on these TV’s, we will think about maybe buying one. Most people will end up buying one. Some of these people won’t even need the thing in the first place but just cannot pass up a bargain. These types of sales will happen the day after Thanksgiving, and these sales will kick off the Christmas season.

Consumers will take advantage of sales like these to buy Christmas presents for all the members of their family. You might see some of them with two or more TV’s and a couple of small stereo systems. You might even see some of these people have a cart full of all of these bargains. This is what the stores that are running these sales like to see because this means that they are getting rid of some of their stock. These sales will be run from 6 o’clock in the morning to noon and if they still have too much of this stock, they might even extend this sale for a longer period of time.

Plasma televisions are becoming more and more popular in American households because of their amazing picture quality. Most people who are looking for a serious home theater start looking at plasma HDTV’s. Compared to LCD TV’s, they have much richer colors and the black and dark colors are much blacker. There are several advantages and disadvantages of owning plasma television. Learn the pro’s and con’s before you head out to the store.

Advantage #1 - Picture Quality

The main reasons people choose plasma over LCD, rear projection and front projectors is the picture quality. Because of the plasma technology, the colors displayed by plasma TV’s are superior to those of any other kind of television. Many people think that when the color black is displayed on their TV that it is actually black. However, most TV’s can’t actually display blacks. They are just dark shades of gray. Plasma TV’s produce very black blacks because of the plasma technology.

Advantage #2 - Screen Size

Plasma TV’s start in the 42 inch and higher range. If you are looking for a large TV, there are plenty of plasma options. LCD screens range from cell phone screens clear up to 65 inch televisions but a large plasma TV is typically a better buy than a LCD TV. If you are buying a plasma TV 50 inches or great, make sure you get a HDTV with 1080p resolution. 1080p is the highest possible resolution and if you are viewing a large screen TV, you will actually see the difference between 1080p and 720p. If it is a smaller TV, the difference is hardly noticeable and not worth the extra money.

Disadvantage #1 - Cost

Plasma TV’s are typically the most expensive televisions on the market. They used be nearly double or triple the price of similar LCD HDTV’s. The prices are slowly dropping due to advances in technology but you will usually pay more for a plasma TV than the same size in a LCD or rear projection television. Plasma TV’s also cost more to run because they require more power and electricity. It isn’t a major difference but over the course of a year, you might pay an extra couple hundred dollars in electricity bills.

Disadvantage #2 - Screen Size

Because plasma’s aren’t usually available in less than 42 inch screen size, you can’t get a smaller TV if you are limited to a certain size. Most flat panel owners are looking in the 30 and 40 inch range and you will find your options are somewhat limited if you are looking for a plasma television. If you are buying a smaller screen, you don’t have to have 1080p resolution. Many new TV’s come with 1080p but if you have the choice, a 720p might save you some money and you won’t even notice the difference.

Shows from early television to the present day are seeing new life as DVD collections. While it certainly seems a strong possibility that TV shows may soon be produced for DVD release and online download since there are already movies being produced strictly for DVD release. However, with the increase in popularity of TV downloads especially of many new shows like Dexter, The Tutors, and Heroes which have strong appeal to television and DVD watchers, executives are sitting up and paying close attention. Fox is already formulating a plan for DVD only show, as a spin-off of sorts from 24 as well as the revival of shows like Babylon 5, Dead Like Me, and The West Wing. Making those shows available for download would mean more bang for the buck and executives have already noticed that some of the most popular TV downloads are water-cooler shows like Lost, Heroes and Desperate Housewives. Furthermore, Hollywood studios are saying that video and TV downloads are doing as well or better on Xbox 360 consoles than similar services like CinemaNow, Movielink and Amazon’s Unbox service, which are available on more widely available PC platforms.

TV downloads are becoming more popular than evermany of them are even free, although commercial TV downloads are somewhat more attractive, since the shows are uninterrupted and the pricing is reasonable. Whereas, the free download services are usually supported by advertising within the TV download. Movie and TV downloads are becoming a feature of more living rooms, a welcome development for the firms that make the chips that power set-top boxes. Furthermore, cable companies are not complaining since their customers will still have to pay the Cable Company for service to receive current or breaking network news/CNN coverage.

Many download sites offer unlimited access to all full length TV shows whether it is Heroes, Desperate Housewives, Rescue Me, House, Friends, Burn Notice, LOST, Greys Anatomy, Gossip Girl, The Simpsons, Prison Break, and any other popular show. However, like any other industry there are numerous differences between the good and the bad services. Some are free but only deliver partial programs while others use tons of advertising within the download. Many services are unreliable and downloads have to be tried several times before successful completion.

Currently, Fast TV Downloads is the number one choice for TV show downloads. One member of Fast TV Downloads, Kevin Thompson, explained that since Fast TV Downloads has a wider range of downloads than most other services and the download speed is much faster than any other website it is already the more attractive choice. However, Fast TV Downloads extras, like free additional software packages such as TV-Show file converters, DVD transfer software, anti-virus software, and adware removal software are usually the clincher. Not to ignore their prompt customer service that is very experienced in TV-Show downloads and their video tutorials.

What are the best HDTV sets? And how do you find them? We all want the best HDTV set, and it is fully possible, by asking some important questions and doing some research. In this article, you will find the best HDTV set for you home.

The task of finding the best HDTV for sale is not always easy. We have magazines, manufacturers, television and even websites telling us which is the best HDTV, but this may not be true to our needs.

Now, we can easily take the advice from these sources, however, what is good for one, may not be the best for another, so it is a good idea to plan before buying a high definition TV set. This process is simple, and can offer many benefits - such as getting the best HDTV set, and also saving some money in the process.

The first point is considering just how big a television you want. Usually this is a simple process of looking at your existing television, and the space available to you. Once you figure out the space you need, and then you can narrow the search down to a more reasonable list.

Now it is time to set a budget. In a world of credit cards, store cards, and finance, it is easy to get stuck into buy now and pay later schemes. You don’t want your new television to put a strain on finances.

Make a budget, and decide on the amount you are willing to spend on a HD TV set. Doing this will go a long way to getting the best HD TV set for your home.

Making a budget and choosing a television size is only the beginning. You will next need to consider whether you like your existing televisions brand. If it has served you well for a number of years, then this can be a great indication of what is at least the best brand of manufacturer for you.

Onto the next step, and that is research. There is a number of ways you can do research. Television programs aimed at reviewing electronic products can be a great way to see what the editors and presenters like, however, it still has a bias, and a very small range of selection.

Some newspapers also include reviews for the best HDTV set. Again, these can have a bias, and a limited range of sets that they review.

Recommended places to look is to also look at consumer reviews on websites. These places with the above mentioned, add to power in research. You will have a wide selection of sources for information, and will not be stuck with what the manufacturer says about a set.

Digital Signage: New Poll Reveals Growing Importance Of Internet In Gathering Information
By David Little

A couple of weeks ago the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press released the results of a major survey about how people in this country consume news.

While the focus of the study was on the news media, I believe the research reveals some important demographic currents that digital signage marketers would do well to recognize and understand. The survey revealed four types on news consumers: News-Integrators, Net-Newsers, Traditionalists and Disengaged. I’ll disregard the disengaged for the sake of expediency and concentrate on three remaining groups because they are where the message for those concerned with digital signage lies.

The two groups offering the most fertile ground for digital signage marketers are News-Integrators and Net-Newsers. Together these two groups, which account for 36 percent of total, show a high propensity for using multiple media types to find the news they desire. According to the results, both groups are well-educate and relatively affluent -qualities most digital signage marketers will find attractive.

Where they differ is in the degree to which they rely on a combination of media technologies when seeking out news. For example, News Integrators view TV as their primary source of news, but supplement it by visiting Web sites most days. Net-Newsers, on the other hand, regard the Internet as their primary source of news. In total, 92 percent of Net-Newsers go online daily to find their news. Other sources, like television, are regarded as secondary. In fact, this group relies so much on the Web that more of them are likely to watch a news story online than sit in front of their TVs and watch the nightly news.

Traditionalist, who account for 46 percent of news consumers, are older, less well-off and less educated than Net-Newsers and News Integrators. Television is the dominant source of news among Traditionalists, and although they own computers, they rarely go online to find out what’s happening.

From my point of view, digital signage marketers can take a few lessons away from this survey. First, most people depend on TV as a valued news source. That’s good news for digital signage communicators because their signs are indistinguishable from TVs at first glance. Secondly, 36 percent of the audience, which happens to be the most affluent portion, likes using a combination of media to get the information they desire. Digital signage marketers can take advantage of this attraction to multiple media sources by adding a broadcast or cable channel into their signage presentations. By using TV in an on-screen digital signage zone, they can grab an audience’s attention while simultaneously conveying their own messages in the remaining zones on the sign.

Third, up-and-coming Net-Newsers and News Integrators show by their news consumption patterns that they are tech savvy and enjoy using technology to determine which media they consume. Hybrid, interactive digital signs adds the perception that the audience is in control of what’s displayed, something that dovetails nicely with this preference.

From my point of view, the results of this survey point out some characteristics about the news audience that can serve as guideposts as digital signage communicators define their message and their approach. Taking advantage of the affinity of these respondents for television news puts digital signage in the game. Using the tools that are available to make it interactive, positions digital signage to excel as an influencer.

Well that is the question that many consumers as themselves. I am making a large purchase, do I want to get a wide screen or a traditional aspect screen. Here are a few things to consider when choosing to buy a widescreen HDTV, a traditional aspect HDTV or regular TV.

Older Analog TVs versus HDTV. Older era televisions are analog televisions unless they have a digital receiver built into them. In February 2009, all television broadcast stations will be required to broadcast in digital. This means analog televisions without digital tuners will be unusable unless they are hooked up to satellite or cable. These are not a good choice to buy. Move along down the row to HD enabled televisions. Luckily enough, all television equipment sold after May 25, 2007 must either contain a digital tuner or be identified at the point of sale as not having one.

LCD or Plasma. HDTV comes in multiple types that can vastly affect price. The liquid crystal display (LCD) type of HDTV dominates the consumer market in small-size to mid-size and is typically cheaper. Plasma television models dominate the consumer market in large-size models. This consideration is generally not an issue when deciding between a wide screen and a traditional aspect. What is a consideration is life expectancy and cost. A widescreen has more visual area that can “burn out.”

Flat Panel Television versus Rear/Front Projection Television. HDTV designs that are plasma or LCD are generally found in the flat panel design. However, you can still find rear projection and front projection HDTVs sold for home theatre systems. In general a wide-screen version will add considerably to the requirements for room size, the total shelf weight and moving restrictions are your overall consideration when making this selection. Unless you have a dedicated home theatre room and plan on never moving again, it’s generally suggested to stay away from Rear or Front Projection wide-screen television.

Widescreen for TV Broadcasts and Movies. Over 90 percent of all broadcasts are in traditional aspect. Most are not in widescreen formatting or have been pre-formatted coming from the broadcaster to fit traditional aspects. If you mostly watch regular television broadcasts and do not routinely use a service provider that has widescreen broadcasts or movies using widescreen aspects, then widescreen is not for you.

Using your Widescreen for Gaming. The beauty of current of having a widescreen for computer gaming is the ability to use the split screen option on many different games without feeling crushed. This is especially true on many First Person Shooter games. If you are an avid gamer, a widescreen HDTV will only enhance your game experience.

Using your HDTV for Work. Here is another example of where the widescreen really can assist the consumer. Some HDTVs are enabled to accept input from computers and can be used as a monitor for your work. You can often get two or three documents on your desktop and view them much easier with a widescreen than on a traditional aspect. If you use your HDTV as both a television and monitor, here is where it can pay off in many ways.

For most consumers, the widescreen HDTVs are the way to go with very little drawback. Unless you are only watching sitcoms or are setting up a home theatre in a small confined space, they are the most versatile aspect. You can watch both traditional aspect and get the full widescreen aspect on the same set of equipment. They are more useful than traditional aspect HDTVs as they can provide additional workspace and even a greater gaming experience.

* How do you need? Believe it or not, bigger is not always better. You can have a TV that is too large for your viewing are or too small for your use.

* What do you plan to do with your new toy? Will you watch a lot of sporting events? Movies? Video games? Believe it or not, certain types of HDTV’s work better with certain types of content. Many sports fanatics will find a large, bright DLP projection system ideal for their tastes, while those who love to watch CNN throughout the day should avoid plasma screens in large, because the effects of combustion in graphics .

* What do you intend to connect to it? If you already have a decent investment in Audio Video equipment, this facility could dictate certain types (and figures!) Interfaces, ports or HDTV on your system.

* If you have a centralized system of entertainment, video switching - using the receiver to switch between video sources and destinations - then you need receiver, you can change the HDTV content. Otherwise, you’ll need a new receiver, which can be costly.

* Do you need a HDTV tuner or just a HD capable TV?

* What you want for style? You may find you’re easily influenced by the elegant, but also many versions of HDTV, you can get these features, for various reasons. You need to know what you want (and can be used) when you go to buy HDTV.

Find the right size:

With your HDTV, you may be too close to the picture, and you can be too far (or have too small an image). You know you’re too close, if you can see the pixels on the screen. You must find the somewhere in between is the perfect size.

In general, experts determine the optimal size for your HDTV set by dividing the distance you sit on television of 2.5.

Need to think about how you plan to use the HDTV with the right type of HDTV for the application. Although you can use any type of HDTV for any scenario viewers that you can think of certain types of HDTV work better for specific uses. Different types of high definition televisions use different technologies to create their images, which often coincide with some better use than others.

For example, if you pack a lot of friends in the room watching movies a lot, you may want to consider plasma or direct-view CRT (tube HDTV) on the screen, instead of CRT rear-projection LCD and flat-screen televisions. This is because the plasma and direct-view CRT are the best angle (image quality when viewed from the side).

The Magic of a TV Lift
By Ron Subs

Have you ever see a cabinet in a movie or maybe even in an office where a TV miraculously rises up from within a hidden compartment? A TV lift is the device that makes it happen. It is bolted directly to the TV so it can’t fall and become damaged. The lift is operated by remote control, allowing it to be operated from anywhere in the room. Once raised, some have swivels allowing the screen to be turned so everyone can watch the program. The entire device is hidden in the cabinet so no one sees it. This also protects the TV from overly-boisterous children, a careless guest at a party, or even a clumsy thief.

When looking to purchase a TV lift it is important to know what to look for. Some models come fairly cheaply, but are made with plastic gears that can break easily. Then there are other models that are fairly expensive with rack and pinion lift technology. Those are made to last, but how big of a cabinet do you really want to have? A lift with rack and pinion lift technology requires a fairly large cabinet. Another thing you want to be aware of is the noise level of the TV lift. You might want to watch a movie after putting the children to bed, but if the TV lift sounds like a 747 taking off they won’t be asleep for long! A telescoping lift such as the one offered by Nexus 21 TV Lift Systems are only 5 decibels. That’s less than a whisper and sure to guarantee that the little ones stay asleep and afford you a relaxing movie night…at least once in a while. You will also want to find out what the warranty is. One year is good, two is better, but if you pay attention you will find one company that stands behind their product for a full five years.

You may wonder where you can put a TV lift. Just about anywhere. Imagine the many possibilities including offices, boardrooms, bedrooms, RV’s, boats, home theatres, and just about anywhere else you would put a TV. It is no longer necessary to make the television the focal point of the room. TV lift technology allows any room to multi-task from its usual purpose to a TV room at the push of a button, literally. Even the area formerly known as the back porch, now the “all-seasons room”, can benefit from a TV lift. Imagine you are out on the back porch enjoying a beautiful fall evening and suddenly you realize that it is time for your favorite TV program to begin. There is no need to rush in the house and let the beautiful fresh air escape you, just press the button and enjoy your outdoor theatre.

It must be mentioned that time coding for normal transcriptions is accurate to +/- 2 to 3 seconds, only full continuities offer frame accurate time code, and if the footage is unstructured, just as it is in Realty TV dailies, then a time code will be inserted every 30 seconds, since no obvious place will be available to mark the beginning and end of an audio response. A time code mark is not inserted for questions asked, but for answers given only.

For time code transcriptions, the content should be submitted on DVD, MP4 digital files or VHS with a visible time code burn, VHS tapes should be recorded in SP mode with HIFI sound and clients should make sure ELP or SLP recording modes are not selected when making the dubs. Our preferred medium of transcription will be a DVD than a VHS. We also offer time coding from audio cassettes and digital audio files such as MP3 or WAV that have audible time code.

Time stamps can also be provided in lieu of Time code when content is submitted without any Visible or Audible Time code. Time stamping only references the head of the counter and the master tapes submitted, time stamping starts from 0: 00: 00.

About Feature Film & Television shows Continuities.

A special mention needs to be made, of transcription that applies to broadcast delivery versions of motion pictures, television shows or documentaries.

The term Full Continuity transcript means a precise detailed cut-by-cut transcription that has the entire dialog, music, cues, credits, on screen graphics, scene descriptions, time code and feet or frame as applicable, a time code spotting is carried out on a cut-by-cut basis or for each line of dialog as desired.

1.	A Cut-by-Cut spotting will have a time code mark at the beginning and end of the edit.

2.	Dialog spotting is very pronounced and indicates that each line of dialog is marked with time code at the beginning and end of each shot.

About Realty Footage w/B-Roll.

The kind of transcriptions that applies to documentary and television projects where the raw footage is completely unstructured and the audio that is audible, needs to be transcribed.

Every attempt is made to identify each person speaking, and includes the brief descriptions of what is happening, the descriptions could be general in nature, and allow the reader of the transcript know of what is happening, and under no circumstances that should be considered as B-Roll Logging, we do not provide B-Roll Logging services. Audio that is relevant will only be transcribed, and chatter between the production crew that is not relevant to the footage is not transcribed.

If the content submitted for transcription has a mix of Reality footage and on-the-fly interviews and you want the whole thing transcribed, that tape will be billed at the Realty Footage rates.

As inflation tightens its grip on America, its consumers are staying home more often. Consequently, DVD and video game sales have increased dramatically. In response the DVD industry are releasing old television shows like, Emergency and China Beach, as well as new shows. However, it is the high quality of television programs today that are causing the newest DVD releases to sell out in stores across the country. Shows like Prison Break, Dexter, and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles have been creating an extra wave of excitement on top of the increase in sales already underway because of their high production value, intense story-lines and great acting.

Prison Break Season 2 continues after Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) has broke out of the maximum security prison at Fox River and now must fight to survive inside Sona, a hellish Panamanian prison where the only rule is brutal violence and the only way out is in a body bag. So, with time running out, Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) scrambles desperately to free his brother along with the only man who can deliver Lincoln’s captive son from the sinister clutches of The Company.

The critically acclaimed and groundbreaking original series from Showtime, Dexter, starring Michael C. Hall, returns on DVD with 12 riveting and chilling episodes. In Dexter - The Second Season. Dexter is committed to carrying out his twisted brand of vigilante justice - Dexter begins to doubt his murderous capabilities and continues to be haunted by his tortured past. His difficulties multiply when evidence of his deadly after-hours activities begin to surface and the FBI is brought in to investigate the city’s new serial killer dubbed the “Bay Harbor Butcher”. Dexter can’t pause for a breath as the noose tightens and the questions keep mounting.

In Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles, Sarah Connor (300’s Lena Headey) her son John, and their protector, a terminator from the future must take back the future. While simultaneously prepare her son to be the future leader of humankind and to fight the war against machines determined to annihilate the human race.

As if to complement the exceptional drama, two new comedy shows have made their debut on DVD which are as high of quality as they are funny. The Big Bang Theory and Spaced are both surprisingly funny with good story lines and new gags an accomplishment that is rarely seen in television comedies.

In The Big Bang Theory physicists Leonard and Sheldon understand everything from the inescapable gravitational pull of a black hole to the intricate structure of the atom unless those atoms are assembled into a woman, then their comprehension comes to a grinding halt. So when Penny, a woman with all those atoms in all the right places, moves in across the hall, Leonard and Sheldon’s universe begins to expand in ways they never could have imagined.

In Spaced two idle twenty-something flatmates - would-be comicbook artist Tim (Simon Pegg, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz), and moody writer Daisy (Jessica Hynes), exist in a world precariously perched on the edge of sanity. So when their self-induced lack of success in employment, relationships, and their oddball assortment of friends and neighbors, Marsha, Brian, Mike and Twist get thrown into the mix their world gets hurled into hilarious insanity.

This selection of titles is just a small part of the great DVD sets being released. Television shows on DVD are this summers perfect fix for high gas prices and travel expenses but since there are no commercial interruptions, the popcorn is perfect, and the chair is comfy, why bother going to the theater.

There are some ways to figure out who makes the best HDTV. The simplest method is to look in consumer review websites and HD ratings. These can be a great way to find an overall rating from consumers, which can be one of the best ways to find out who makes the best HDTV.

We can’t just stop there; we also need to factor in several aspects. For example, there are a lot of manufacturers of televisions, but can we really rely on what we see on one or two websites?

Most of the reviews that people post on the site are people who have only used the television for a short period of time. You likely will not see a review from someone who has used the television set for a number of years.

There is one good thing about review sites, and that is that they offer you immediate information. You can discover what was good, and what was bad about a certain set. This information can be invaluable.

One manufacturer may be the best for one person, whereas it might not be the best for another. However, there are some points to make, and some ways you can narrow your choice down to find who makes the best HDTV.

A look at brand is an important one. Though a product that has a big brand awareness will likely be more expensive than a less known manufacturer, a big brand carrying a larger price, also has a certain level of quality.

We can see this from manufacturers such as Sony, Panasonic, and Philips are generally held as the companies who make the best HDTV. They have brand awareness, and as such a company doesn’t get such brand awareness unless there products perform how they are meant to.

The ultimate way to find out who makes the best HDTV is to look at your own experience. Though you likely have not gone through more than 1 high definition television set, you likely have gone through several televisions.

This information can be essential, as you have personal experience of certain brands. And you likely have a liking for one brand, which could be a good indicator of how a certain brand will perform.

Anyone with a plasma TV will tell you it’s not small. Usually they are mounted to a wall to save space and prevent damage. With most models measuring in at over 37″ across, they do take up a significant amount of wall space. Not to mention the fact that they need special mounting gear to keep them on the wall without damaging the TV or the wall. Rest assured that many have been destroyed by improper installation. This is not the ideal situation.

What can you do then? Should you get rid of the expensive TV that you’ve worked so hard for? That would be silly and, of course, unnecessary. Rest assured that there is an answer for your dilemma. A plasma TV lift is a device that will allow you to raise and lower your expensive set in and out of a beautiful cabinet while taking up only minimal space. Not only will you not have to worry about damaging your wall, your expensive TV will be out of the way until you want to watch it. Real artwork can adorn the walls once again.

How big a set can a plasma TV lift handle? They can handle sets up to 65″. You may wonder how strong one of these lifts can really be. On one manufacturer’s website they decided to put one of these lifts to an unusual and difficult test: they had one of their managers sit on the cabinet and press the button. The lift raised both the TV and the manager with seemingly little effort. There was no loud noise coming from the motor that would indicate that this was causing a strain to the equipment. This is an example of the strength of the TV lifts that you can find on the market today.

The various manufacturers of this type of product have a variety of cabinets available complete with the TV lifts already installed. There are many styles available to suit any decor, from classic to modern. There are also a wide variety of price ranges available to fit most budgets. You can also purchase a kit that can allow a lift to be placed into a cabinet of your choosing. This is especially important if you have a matching furniture suite that you don’t want to distract from. You can also find a full range of accessories, from component shelves for DVD’s and VCR’s, to extra heavy-duty mounting brackets and anything else you might need to make this type of set-up work for you.

It is pretty certain that the days of the cathode ray TV are over, while they are still being manufactured in the majority of cases people will choose to buy a flat screen LCD or plasma variant. The wholesale move towards these flat panel televisions has been a result of the onset of digital TV and high definition or HD signals. Seemingly no home is now complete without a HD TV screen on the wall and a full surround system, at the moment this may purely be an aesthetic choice but as the old analogue signals are switched off, the necessity for a HD TV will be realised.

HD signals are finally being transmitted by nearly all of the major television companies, the BBC, ITV and Channel 4 all transmit in high def, whilst paid television such as Sky also have additional high definition channels. The HD television however is not purely used for watching live television broadcasts, with BluRay DVD it is now possible to watch movies in better definition that at the cinema. Considering the size of the televisions available today, a compromise on size does not even have to be made. But what should be your major considerations when buying a high definition television set?

Naturally the first consideration to make when looking at HD TVs is price, with models that can cost thousands of pounds it is unsurprising that so many people become confused on entering the shop and end up leaving with a gargantuan televisions with many features that will be used rarely, if ever. The best advice is to set yourself a budget before heading out to the shops, it is even more important however to stick to this budget religiously and not become swayed by either the sales assistants or an impressive television that is just outside of the price range. It is worth remembering however that HD TV prices are constantly dropping meaning that with a little patience it is possible to wait until sales time and grab a bargain.

The next consideration is how large you want the television to be, e.g. the size of the screen. Most people believe that the larger the screen the better although in most cases this is not completely true; for instance if you live in a box room, having a massive telly will most likely be impracticable. Most experts agree that if the distance taken from the viewing position to the screen divided by two and a half will give an indication of the screen size required. In addition it is important to plan how the television is to fit into the room, a stupidly large television will dominate a room forcing people to consider it as the main focal point. Preferably a TV should not be the main focal point, even if it is a piece of wonder HD technology.

The final consideration to be discussed here is whether the HD TV you are considering will be compatible with existing components; these components could be a stereo system or a surround sound system. Additionally the number of fittings and connections that television has should be studied in order to assess whether all of those DVD players and satellite boxes will be able to be plugged in.

Hopefully these three considerations will give those selecting a HD TV a good starting place from which to scour the markets. Researching what is on the market is vital not only to obtain a good deal but to get a set that performs all of the necessary tasks. With a careful and conscientious approach it should be possible to gain years of viewing pleasure.
